Age, wood provenance and construction characteristics of three roman barges from the Netherlands |
Recently in the Netherlands three flat-bottomed barges from the Roman Period, belonging to the so-called Zwammerdam type, have been excavated along the central part of the Limes. These are the De Meern 1 (2003), the Woerden 7 (2003) and the De Meern 4 (2005). Dendrochronology was used to study their age, provenance and aspects of their construction. More.
