Roman Shipwreck off Coast of Cyprus was Carrying French Wine
A second century AD Roman shipwreck with a cargo of 130 amphorae containing wine and possibly also olive oil has been the subject of an underwater archaeological survey off the eastern coast of Cyprus. More.

Divers Can Now Observe the Scotland's Shipwrecks
HISTORIC shipwrecks that have been out of bounds to divers are to be opened up for the first time. Currently it is illegal for scuba divers to visit eight protected sites – such as the HMS Campania in the Firth of Forth – without a licence from Historic Scotland. More.

The survey of a Roman shipwreck dating back to the 2nd century AD has revealed the presence of over 130 ceramic jars, likely to have been carrying wine or oil, which indicates that the Romans may have liked French wine. More.

Roman warship found near Pisa's tower is 'best-preserved ship of ancient times'
A long-vanished harbour 500 metres from the leaning Tower of Pisa has yielded its most precious treasure to date: an intact ancient Roman warship, 12 metres (40ft) long, "the best-preserved ship of antiquity ever found" according to the project director at the site, Andrea Camilli. More.

Age, wood provenance and construction characteristics of three roman barges from the Netherlands
Recently in the Netherlands three flat-bottomed barges from the Roman Period, belonging to the so-called Zwammerdam type, have been excavated along the central part of the Limes. These are the De Meern 1 (2003), the Woerden 7 (2003) and the De Meern 4 (2005). Dendrochronology was used to study their age, provenance and aspects of their construction. More.

Hail Caesar for Cobham
The Cobham Band recently went from 'Caesar' to 'Seasongs' as they helped both Walton and Cobham celebrate National Heritage Day. Starting in Walton the band played by the Thames as Caesar sailed past on a canal barge - the Byfleet Boat Club splendidly presenting the Roman theme of the day by dressing up themselves and their boats.
